Outfit Post: Serenity

Holy crap it’s finally winter! Seriously, just today it got cold enough for tights and a jacket.  I get the warm and fuzzies for winter when I see everyone else sporting their warm sweaters and bright tights.  I get a little jealous.  I start getting snotty with my short sleeves and light skirts, telling them I’m tired of looking at them and such.  But now, one day in I’m wondering what the hell I was thinking.  It’s cold.  I don’t like cold.

I do, however, love love love the little serenity park where I snapped the pic of today’s outfit

It’s across the street from my favorite restaurant.  Even though it’s in the middle of our little town it’s usually pretty quiet and private so no gawkers while I was trying to get a good shot.  There’s all this awesome old brick from the buildings it’s sandwiched between, little stone benches and tables, and lovely retro lamp posts.  Of course that makes it a great spot for pictures.  I just happened to have my engagement photos done there

And just last year two of my closest friends called up the JP and got hitched there

Outfit Post: Sunny and Bright

I decided this lemon yellow color would be great for the scorching hot summer.  Little did I realize when I got it on super clearance that the collar would be super tricky to iron.

I think I managed ok.  No cats or husbands were burned in the process

And it provided the perfect backdrop for my new jewelry creation.

Outfit Post: Nostalgia

All that inspiration… well, it inspired me.

Yep, went to work looking like the 90’s threw up on me.

However, this is not something I would have worn in the 90s.  Sure, I was a teen and should have been wearing fun stuff like this but I didn’t experiment with clothes much when I was a kid.  In fact I spent most of my time looking like I a robbed a homeless person (stuff was usually big enough to hide in).  I had some self confidence/self esteem problems back then.  But that’s part of what makes blogging fun, it’s like having my own redo button.  And right now I feel like redoing 94 or so.  If I start gunning for the 80’s and going on nostalgically about big hair, ya’ll pump the breaks for me, kay.

Outfit Post: Life Long Goals

Ya'll know what I'm going to do one day?  Live through a horror movie.  Seriously.  The zombie invasion/showdown with evil/masked psycho killer thing is going to happen and I'll be the chick in the end.  Sure I'll be covered in eleven kinds of ickyness and my hair will be a mess but I'll be ALIVE.

How do I know I'll make it to the end?  Because I've been training for this my entire life.  While most preteen girls were watching John Hughes flicks, my childhood bestest and I were pouring over Nightmare on Elm Street.  While most ladies like to slip in a romantic comedy on date night, I drag my boy to the bloodiest flick I can find (Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter this month! Squee!).  And I run like a beast.

Ya'll know what I'm not going to be wearing when you see me walking up the road all by my lonesome after vanquishing the evil?  These shoes.

Or this dress for that matter.  But mostly just the shoes.  I barely made it through the backyard to take the pic without falling on my face.  Not conducive to horror movie survival.  Not at all.

Outfit Post: Attachment Issues

I am not ashamed to admit I get way too attached to inanimate objects.  For example my stuffed Heathcliff my brother won for me at a carnival when I was five has been sewn back together roughly six times over his life span.  He's lost a good quarter of his stuffing and his eyes and nose (both hard plastic.  He was the ultimate weapon during sleepover pillow fights) are hanging on by threads.  But I refuse to let the little guy go.  Sure I say I'm holding on to him for when I have a little one of my own but I'm pretty sure he'll just stay tucked away safe and sound where I can keep forever.  Ripe for therapeutic consideration.

I hold on to clothes until they fall apart too.  For example, my trusty polka-dot dress I've had for somewhere over eight years now.

Outfit Post: Great Pumpkins and Karma

When I was playing high school basketball we occasionally played a team whose team colors were black and orange.   We referred to them as pumpkins.  That was kind of jerky of us.  Now, in a bizarre twist of karma I can't pair orange and black together without fear of looking pumpkinish.   I tried to exercise my demons with this outfit.

I think the little pop of orange is fun.  And not pumpkiny at all.  It's not, right?  Right?!
